Hi Adam,
The ESC key is way too common to too many applications to have it mapped to cancelling rendering. My first choice would be a mouse-click on a button to cancel, but if it must be a keyboard map for programming reasons please map it to a Function key.
The ESC key is especially problematic for Unity users or multitaskers.
Thanks
Cheers,
Bill

ESC is the de facto way of cancelling-what-you're-doing, so it makes sense to use for jumping out of compute intensive tasks like rendering.
Why is ESC "especially problematic for Unity users"?

Re: No More ESC to cancel
If the ESC keyboard mapping only worked when Sketch up had the focus, it might not be such a problem. But that is not the case. If I am working in another application while LightUp is rendering and use the ESC key in that application, LightUp is cancelled.
The fact ESC is so commonly used by other applications is exactly the problem. Even conscious of the issue, I have inadvertently cancelled my LightUp rendering 20-30 times in the last 2 days. It is by far the singular most frustrating issue I have encountered with LightUp.
So I will amend my wish to say either only have the ESC key cancel when SketchUp has the focus, or map to a different key.
Cheers,
Bill

OK, really appreciate you taking the time to describe the problem.
Now fixed. You'll get it in v2.6a which is out real soon.
