I just bought LightUp and am already loving the ease of use. However I find it very time consuming to make new lights and re-use them.
I was amazed to find that there is not a library of ready to use components on the forums here or the 3D warehouse. With LightUp being compatible with standard IES files, it seems like a natural step to be able to make new components that match real world light fixtures, especially commonly installed fixtures.

Re: Component library
this is something that i wait for too.
and i'm sure we are not alone on this one.
Adam - how can we help ? should we send you some of our components so you put them on your site
(or on your 3dwarehouse user) for all to share? will you add some of yours?

Re: Component library
Hi,
I can see the use of that from an aesthetic point of view.
However, there is a challenge here - IES files model luminaires. So not just the light itself, but its reflector and housing (which may occlude light). So also having the geometry of the housing would be purely for a "look", not really for modifying the light output. You'd also need to ensure the IES profile and the model matched up.
Certainly from an "ease of use" perspective it makes sense. I'll put my hand up and admit for some time I pointed LightUp users at the countless websites that offer free IES files to download - but ultimately, what users want is open a dialog and choose a light - so we now ship a small start-pack of IES files.
In some sense this is the same deal. Yes, you could roll-your-own, but why not ship a few to get started with..

Re: Component library
I guess what I am looking for is something like what Podium has, see here: http://www.suplugins.com/supodium-v2.php#pdm_browser
Right now I am using LightUp for a contract job, the job is finished with just sunlight. However now they are paying extra for me to go and add light fixtures. I will be building most of these myself as components without IES files (Accuracy on this isn't as important) but it seems like a waste not to share.

Re: Component library
OK new to this lighting thingy. All I do is grab a light from somewhere like the 3D warehouse, move all parts of the light to 1 layer, add light settings fiddle with or add materials to the light model, then turn it into a component. I then copy the component around the model. This is very fast to do, or am I missing the point!!!

On a related note, for PointLightSources with IES files, you can do right-click on a PointLightSource component and choose "Select Similar Lights" to auto-select all lights with the same parameters and then click to edit all of them at once.
