How to create a glowing light bulb?

Post by MrWetsnow » Tue Aug 14, 2018 6:42 pm

Hi,

(New here). I am trying to figure out how I would create a glowing light bulb. Basically I want a light bulb with a direction light projected on to the wall, but the bulb itself should be glowing (like bulbs do when you look at them directly). I am having a hard time figuring out the proper settings for something like that.

Perhaps a simpler project (and similar) is to have a glass wall between the light source and a brick wall.

(bulb) | (glass wall) | (brick wall)

The bulb points toward the glass and brick wall. The glass wall should allow the light through, but, when looking at the glass wall from the side of the brick wall, there should be a glow in the middle where the light passes through. I think this should work similar to a light bulb, if I understand that correctly.

I can make the (glass wall) fully transparent, and that makes the light go through it. But I am not sure how to show a glow where the light passes.

Thank you
Dan

I think I am looking for something like this:

I guess one way to do that would be to apply an emitter to the light bulb itself. Is that the recommended way? What about the wall?

And I think I figured it out...

Always fully lit and Additive Glow:
