Light fall-off maps?

Post by snapple » Fri Oct 08, 2010 6:17 pm

Here's a crazy idea. I have no idea if it's practical or not, but...

I wonder if there's a way to create a map or custom channel that is based on the lighting fall-off from a particular source of illumination? That map could then be animated and reflect the animation of the light source.

So, for example: Say you have a flashing neon light in your scene that you're using as a light-source. If you animated it with the texture animation tool, the additional light fall-off map on the geometry affected by the light would flash with it but leave the rest of the textures alone (on's that fall out of the light-source's reach or calculation). I'm not sure if this gets into a texture layering issue or how it would be done (or, if within Sketchup, it's even a possibility).
