Should the "Force simple rendering" in the tools menu get mark when selected, and unmarked when unmarked ?

I don't se any marks.

No, its more like selecting a 'command' to LightUp. If you select it, the next time you start Sketchup it will be using Simple Rendering and the menu will read "Use Normal Rendering". [I don't think you can mark menu items from Ruby.]

What seems to be the trouble you're trying to fix? Rendering problems?

Basic soft shadows and lighting is available with both Simple and Normal rendering in LightUp. It is just reflections and bumpmapping that use more advanced rendering and not available if you choose Simple mode.
