Light beams for theatre

Post by Richard_Lyon » Tue Jan 06, 2015 10:01 pm

Hi Adam,

I design sensory rooms and hydrotherapy rooms for the learning disabled. We use theatrical lighting in these which we often use through haze - are you looking at adding light beams in at any point soon. What we could really use is something that looks like this:

Although the actual haze is not necessary.

I have been using your demo for a couple of days now, and we are very impressed. We will be making a purchase soon. :)

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Adam,

I've used your idea, but it doesn't really give the defined circular projected image that is give from theatrical lighting. But, after some experimentation, I have come up with a slightly different method of doing it:

I used the "always lit" option on the large end of the cone, and used the smaller end as an emitter. I coloured the actual cone itself in a 20% translucent material (or a colourised granite tone, as used by yourself - I'm not doing any animation though). You can work out the precise size of the cone using the following formula:

Beam width = (beam angle x 0.018) x distance

This will allow you to set the angle of the emitter precisely. You will need to move the cone around slightly (usually about 3mm) to stop materials clashing.

If anyone is interested, I can knock up a tutorial?

Richard
