Sorry for the double post but, I installed lightup app in two ipad minis and both crashed, first ipad mini could open the file, zoom in and out worked ok also orbit but as soon as you try to walk it crashes. Second Ipad mini was not able to even open the file. This leads me to two questions, 1.- Is the player optimized only for Ipad air? 2.- Is there any plan to release an android Tablet version since the new releases of Nvidia Tegra are more powerful versions.

Thanks Adam

This sounds like running out of memory. Try closing down all other Apps to free up the maximum amount of memory if you're loading a large .luca file

If you have crash logs, you can send them to help@light-up.co.uk which may help.

We have no plans for an Android version currently.

I will try that, also is there a file size that you consider it should be apropriate for displaying it in ipad? like a recomended ammount of geometry to say someting you know to have a smooth experience by knowing the limits of the hardware.

Noob question, Where can I find the crash logs in the ipad app.

 I had to ask anyway

Sorry for the double post, but I have to ask.

Ipad Air 2 is out now, and the new GPU is 2.5x faster. I currently own the iPad Air 1 and the other day I pushed the damn thing to it's limits by using planar reflections on the floor and two things happened 1st.- Planar reflections worked, I don't understand how because they didn't show up before (as you can see in my post of August 14th) 2nd.-Frame rate droped badly and I mean BAD obviously because of intense GPU rendering over plannar reflections. Of course I'm still learning to improve my models and I understand that there are certain things that I must do in order to have a good performance without sacrificing quality (low poly models, 1 side rendering, irrcache reflections). My question is if theres going to be a significant improvement on lightup on iPad Air 2.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Thank you Adam.

P.S. I will try to go to the nearest apple shop and try out lightup demo app with my current project and see how it goes.

The latest version of the LightUp iPad player supports realtime animated Section Planes between Scenes and Planar Reflections.

Its an involved technical story as to why planar reflections really cost on iPad to do with the PowerVR GPUs they use. Short story: Planar reflections are the very worse thing for how this type of GPU work internally. The new GPUs are much faster, so can mask the cost a little but certainly older iPads will struggle.

Better to use IrrCache for mobile devices as they're very fast.
